Bio-ill-ogical

Somewhere in the romantic-fantasy part of my brain (in the temporal lobe, just atop the cerebellum, to the left of the appendix–it’s been a really long time since I took an anatomy class) I have this desire to pack it all in and go to UC Davis to become a winemaker.  I’m happy enough being an architect, but there is something about being outside, walking the vines, working with something organic, staring into that little brix reader thing that is totally appealing to me.  Oh, and the outfits / costumes.  Years ago I started playing racquetball strictly because I was into the all-white & glass modern box and all-white outfits.  It’s kind of the same with the winemaker costume; I like the dirty old button up shirt and overalls, and the obligatory Patagonia.

As my fantasy started to occupy more and more of my brain, I decided to look at the V&E Page on the UC Davis website.  It must just be a bunch of students walking around vineyards in overalls staring into their brix meters with purple stained teeth, right?  Imagine my surprise when I read:

Completion of UCD equivalent preparatory courses for the major:

General Chemistry
Organic Chemistry
Calculus
General Physics
Biological Sciences

That is a lot of science.  I have already struggled my way through Physics and Structures in architecture school, and there is no way I am taking a single one of those classes listed above.  Geez, when did winemakers turn into such nerds?

Alas, I suppose I will just continue to be a lowly architect in my costume of all-black with a fashion-y computer bag and silly glasses–that is until I find another fantasy with good costumes and less science.
